The long-awaited new downtown ballpark for the Pensacola Pelicans — approved by voters in 2006 — received final approval from the city. The long-awaited new downtown ballpark for the Pensacola Pelicans (independent; American Association) — approved by voters in 2006 — received final approval from the city.

The Community Maritime Park, located on 30 acres along Main Street, will have the ballpark as its centerpiece. The total cost of the project has not been determined, but the city of Pensacola will be financing $40 million. HKS is the architect of record on the project; a local firm, Maritime Park Development Partners, is the contractor.

The actual opening date of the new ballpark still needs to be determined, though we imagine it will be 2011.
