The annual New Year's Day NHL showcase will be played this upcoming season at Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox.
The ballpark has been considered for the Winter Classic before, but construction and some weatherization issues prevented its use this past season. In addition, the Fenway Park groundskeeping crew objected to the game as well. Those issues are now resolved, paving the way for the game. This will be the third time the NHL has featured an outdoor game on New Year's Day; the first two were held at Ralph Wilson Stadium and Wrigley Field.
The Boston Bruins will host the Philadelphia Flyers.
