Martinsville Mustangs approach break-even point, ensuring survival for 2011

Martinsville Mustangs logoThe future of the summer-collegiate Martinsville Mustangs depends on approaching a break-even point on the books — and it looks like the team will come close to that this season.

The team has been subsidized by the city in recent years, but facing their own budget issues, leaders say the team much approach break-even or else be sold. It looks like the team will be close to breaking even this season; new GM Jim Taipaulus looks to have cut losses by half so far this season, and that should be close enough to placate city leaders. Among the changes to Hooker Field this year: a party deck and between-innings entertainment. A few attendance records helped as well.
