Tyler TumminiaThe New York Mets, the Brooklyn Cyclones (short season A; NY-Penn League) and Tyler Tumminia, Vice President of Marketing and Operations with The Goldklang Group, will be honored by NYU’s Sports Business Society on April 12.

Tumminia will be named 2011 Executive of the Year. She joins an elite group of prior recipients, including MLS Commissioner Don Garber, MLB Network CEO & President Tony Petitti and the NFL’s Alexia Gallagher.

The SBS Awards were established to recognize individuals and organizations of distinction that have positively influenced the business of sports while simultaneously touching the lives of NYU Sports Management Students. Selection for the SBS Awards are based on the following criteria-unwavering integrity and a commitment to his/her organization’s goals, displaying responsibility through supporting his/her organizations philanthropic ventures and community projects, and initiating improvements to his/her organization through innovation and ingenuity.

“Not only is Tyler Tumminia a dear friend and exceptional baseball executive, but she has become a role model to the students at New York University. Besides her guest lectures, Tyler has gone out of her way to mentor and support the students in our Sports Management program,” said NYU Sports Management Professor Wayne G. McDonnell. “She is held in high regard by all of our students, but her success and achievements have inspired countless women in our program. Tyler’s kindness, honesty and sincerity haven’t gone unnoticed and we are extremely proud to award her with our 2011 Executive of the Year Award.”

Since joining the Goldklang Group, Tumminia has been responsible for the marketing and broad scale sponsorship, operations, and communication efforts for the Goldklang Group. She developed the Group’s marketing philosophy, Be Your Own Fan, in response to current market trends and industry analysis.

“It’s truly an honor to be named the 2011 Executive of the Year by the NYU students,” said Tumminia. “Receiving an award that comes directly from the students is humbling. I remember sitting in their seats not too long ago, and having the opportunity to spend some time with this special class of students leaves me with no doubt that they are tomorrow’s industry leaders.”

The Sports Business Society Awards will be held on Tuesday, April 12th at the Kimmel Center on the NYU campus in New York City.
