White Sox to go big with new team store

Chicago White SoxThe Chicago White Sox will be adding one of the largest team stores in the majors to U.S. Cellular Field, working with Delaware North Companies Sportservice to open a two-level, 13,000-square-foot facility just east of Gate 5, near the new Bacardi at the Park.

The store will feature a full line of White Sox merchandise, as well as merchandise from other Chicago sports teams.

“We are committed to providing White Sox fans the very best experience in all of sports,” said White Sox senior vice president of sales and marketing Brooks Boyer. “The team store is yet another showpiece amenity that we are proud to give Sox fans, and we hope it will become the preeminent sports retail destination for fans of all teams in the city of Chicago.”

The store is also envisioned as a way for the Sox and its partners to spruce up the 35th Street entrance to the ballpark.

“This store, together with the newly opened Bacardi at the Park, provides sports fans with excitement outside the ballpark, as well as within,” said James R. Thompson, chairman of the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority. “The new store will be the class of the sports souvenir world — part of the new 35th Street experience.”

The expected opening of the store, to be designed by Chicago-based architect RGLA, is Fall 2011. It will be open year-round.
