Goodbye, SWB Yankees: Name-the-team contest announced

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre YankeesThe Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees (Class AAA; International League) moniker will be gone as the end of the season, as the team launches a name-the-team contest for 2013.

The entry form for the contest can be found here.

The contest coincides with a return of the team to a renovated PNC Field for the 2013 season.

“In addition to baseball, the reconstructed ballpark itself will be a home for NEPA and the surrounding areas where all residents can have a sense of community pride,” Mandalay Baseball CEO Art Matin said in a press release. “And it all begins with them having a key role in renaming the team.”

Meanwhile, we hear a new general manager has been selected for the SWB Yankees, replacing Kristin Rose. We’ll let the team make the announcement, but we think the locals will appreciate the high energy, likability and experience of the new GM, currently working for a Pacific Coast League team.
