Helping fans cope with the hot weather

Ballpark DigestAnother day in one of the hottest summers on record poses a challenge to baseball teams of all sorts: how to keep fans hydrated and happy during a steamy night at the ballpark.

It’s all about the water. For teams that installed water features like misters and pools before now, the hot summer weather and drought will be a less of a challenge. But for ballparks lacking either or both, the hot weather poses quite the challenge, both in getting fans to the ballpark and in keeping them there.

On a basic level, drinking water is the key. For instance, the Detroit Tigers are allowing fans to bring in their own sealed water bottles and will set up free water stations for refilling those water bottles. Extra Gatorade will be available to players during the course of the game.
