Joliet Slammers sale imminent

Joliet SlammersA sale of the Joliet Slammers (independent; Frontier League) is close to fruition, with changes to the Silver Cross Field memo of understanding expected to be approved Monday night by the city council.

The city council doesn’t have a direct say in the sale of the Slammers, but does have an indirect one: if the new buyer isn’t acceptable, the council could reject any changes. In this case, the council is being asked to approve a transfer of the lease from a group led by Alan Oremus to an out-of-town outfit, as well as reduce the yearly rent from the current $150,000 annual fee.

Oremus brought baseball back to Joliet after the original Joliet JackHammers (independent; Northern League) collapsed in a sea of debt.
