Wilmington still negotiating ballpark site

Carolina League

Wilmington (N.C.) officials have settled on two waterfront sites for a potential ballpark for a High Class A Carolina League team and are negotiating with the landowners.

The plan: the city would fund a $37-million ballpark project for a ballpark to be managed by Mandalay Baseball Properties and hosting a team owned by the Atlanta Braves. Funding for the project, which includes $6 million for land and $31 million for the actual ballpark, would come from a hike in property taxes ($50 annually on a $200,000 home), which must be approved by voters in the November elections.

We've reported in the past on the two sites: both are on the waterfront, both are seemingly affordable, and both are acceptable to Mandalay and the Braves
