Future uncertain for Sal Maglie Stadium

Sal Maglie Stadium

Sal Maglie Stadium, home to the Niagara Power (summer collegiate; NYCBL) and a former pro venue, faces an uncertain future as the local school board will ends its management of the historic facility.

Besides hosting Power and Niagara University games, the historic ballpark also hosts local high-school matches. The ballpark opened in1939 as a football facility and was converted to a baseball facility in the 1950s. Over the years it hosted NY-Penn League games as well as Buffalo Bisons (Class AAA; International League) when that team was forced from Buffalo. The school board’s agreement to manage the facility ends in 2014, so the city will need to determine its future. Power owner Cal Kern has talked about bringing independent Frontier League baseball to the facility.
