Stockton Ports to host WCC tourney

Stockton PortsThe Stockton Ports (High Class A; California League) will be the official host for the 2014 and 2015 West Coast Conference Baseball Championships at Banner Island Ballpark.

The Ports bid on hosting the tourney in conjunction with the Stockton Convention and Visitors Bureau. The Ports also hosted the 2013 tourney at Banner Island Ballpark.

Championship play will begin Thursday, May 22, 2014 with the top-four WCC teams from the regular season and will conclude on Saturday, May 24, 2014.

“We are excited to host the WCC Championship for another year at Banner Island Ballpark, and we look forward to continuing the relationship in 2015,” said 7th Inning Stretch President Pat Filippone.

The West Coast Conference currently consists of ten schools including Brigham Young, Gonzaga, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, Portland, Saint Mary’s, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Clara, and recent addition and Stockton representative, University of the Pacific.

“I am very pleased that the West Coast Conference Baseball Championship will return to Banner Island Ballpark this year,” said WCC Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich.

“Thanks in large part to the efforts of the Banner Island staff and the City of Stockton, our first baseball championship after a three-year hiatus was a great experience. We look forward to improving upon the event and making the WCC Baseball Championship a premiere event for our student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and fans.”
