Riversharks hosting home-run derby on Battleship New Jersey

Camden RiversharksCool event: the Camden Riversharks (independent; Atlantic League) are hosting a home-run derby for fans of all ages on the deck of the Battleship New Jersey.

The event, through 1 p.m. Eastern today and features several Riversharks players. It’s the first time a home-run derby, or any baseball-related activity, will take place on Battleship New Jersey, the ship that served in World War II, the Koren War, and the Vietnam War. Individuals can participate in the Home Run Derby alongside the Riversharks and will receive five swings off of the battleship’s deck for $15. Participants will swing off of a hitting tee. Proceeds from each ticket sold will be donated toward Battleship New Jersey.

The Home Run Derby will coincide with Military Appreciation Night later that evening at Campbell’s Field, where all military members will be honored throughout the game. For this game, all active duty personnel and veterans will receive a free 200 level ticket when they present a military I.D. at the box office.

We’ve seen other teams hold All-Star events on a battleship deck; the Charleston RiverDogs held a home-run derby on the USS Yorktown flight deck as part of the Sally League All-Star festivities in 2012.
